Internet Marketing Advice – Keep Your Wallet In Your Pocket

Trying to Buy Success

How much are you spending to learn the tricks of the Internet marketing trade? Are you spending cash hand over fist in pursuit of an ideal approach to implement your business idea? Are you becoming an IM product addict, investing your cash in anything and everything that might improve you bottom line?

If you're spending a fortune on your business, you're not the only one. Far too many Internet marketers are doing the exact same thing.

And that's totally understandable. It makes perfect sense to purchase new information and products to keep your business rolling right along. There's nothing crazy about acquiring new information and products in order to stay abreast of changes in the business. However, there is a problem with running on the 'BUY NOW' treadmill if you're not making any money.

There's a significant difference between trying to stay on the cutting edge and gambling on every possible tool in examples of making a business work.

You want to spend your money the smart way. You do not want to be the person who has spent $ 40,000 on IM products and still is not making regular sales.

Buying the Right Way

How do you prevent yourself from unnecessary overspending? It starts by building a rock-solid foundation. If you strip away all of the details, tricks, options and creative new ideas from Internet marketing, it's a simple proposition.

You must have a product you can sell. You must have a way to sell the product. You need to secure traffic to the website you'll be using to generate sales.

That's IM in a nutshell. All of your efforts should relate to one of those basic needs.

As such, you need to focus on building strength in all three areas. When you buy something, it must directly address one of those three fundamental needs.

Before you start reaching for details, tweaks, adjustments and tricks, you need to develop your core means of making online money. Once you have the basics in place, you're going to start making money. After you're making money, you can be looking at those extras and adjustments.

Smart Foundation Building

You do not need to spend big money to build a profitable foundation. This is what you need to do.

  • Get a smart, big picture understanding of Internet marketing. You need to hear, straight from the proverbial horse's mouth, how things fit together and what really works.
  • Focus on ways to boost traffic. As noted, traffic is one of the three keys to a solid foundation. It's also the most important one you'll address. Without traffic, you can not determine if your product is interesting or if you're sales strategy is working. Without traffic, you can not determine if you have the right product or a workable sales strategy. You need to get people to your site as soon as possible.
  • Discover a continuing source of support and guidance. A good eBook can be helpful and instructional videos can really

Online Store Builder Needs Road Map

Many businesses spend all their efforts developing their websites just to fail miserably before their first year. A few that have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and have failed come to mind, such as women's clothing stores and several electronic stores. The cemetery of domains that have expired is growing, and many more domains will expire soon.

An ecommerce store is ephemeral; it exists in a complete different world than the regular marketplace. People do not just walk by your storefront and go in when they see your sign; you have to drive them there; you have to figure out a way to bring them directly into your virtual ecommerce store, which only exists electronically.

You could buy internet advertising in the same way you could get an ad in the local newspaper, but you also want to maximize 'foot traffic' as much as possible. Foot traffic comes when you make yourself easy to find by the search engines. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the three major search engines.

When someone searches the web for something, the search engine tries to find a provider for that person person needs. The search engine is a third party between you and you potential customer. Since the referrer's reputation is also on the line, the search engine makes sure your site is a great match for the customer's needs. In a way, competition is greater than for a brick and mortar store because you are also competitive with online businesses beyond your geographic boundaries. Furthermore, search engines are capable of ranking all of the competitive websites against yours. Because of the increased competition, if you do not know how to optimize your site, it is easy to spend thousands of dollars creating an ecommerce store and not even survive your first year.

Search engine optimization takes time before that vital foot traffic begins to appear and grow. SEO can be completed with online advertising. Remember, however, that traffic from advertising stops the instant you stop advertising, while SEO traffic can continue indefinitely with only periodic maintenance.

The principles of search engine optimization for an ecommerce store are simple, but their execution takes some time and dedication:

  1. Study your market and see what your customers want. Look for areas where you can compete easily and concentrate your efforts in those areas.
  2. Perform keyword research to see what prospects are searching for online. Your chances of being found depend on this research.
  3. Optimize your ecommerce store's content. Customize your content as much as possible. Duplicate content is common on ecommerce sites since product descriptions are typically copied from the manufacture's literature. When a search engine finds duplicate content, it drops its rankings and makes it hard to find through organic searches.
  4. Do internal search engine optimization of your overall website. Learn the principles of SEO.
  5. Interconnect the pages of your ecommerce site using more than one navigation option. Make your products easy to find once the customer reaches your site.
  6. Perform external search engine

15 Steps to Speed Up Your Computer

Your question, how do I speed up my computer? You get frustrated when your computer is very slow. You can now save yourself from aggravation especially when you are very busy working. I will show you 15 steps to do to speed up your computer.

Let me enumerate them: As I have also mentioned on my previous articles

1. Defrag your computer at least once every two weeks (I do it once a week). Go to start> accessories> system tools> disk defragmenter. You can click on "analyze" first before you choose defrag, it will tell you if you need to defrag. Just defrag it even if it reports you do not need to.

2. Do Disk Clean Up at least once every two weeks (again, I do this once a week). Go to start> accessories> system tools> disk clean up. It will analyze your disk and will generate reports. I suggest you delete files from the recycle bin and the files located in the temporary files folder. Note: I avoid compressing files. It's your call.

3. Clean up your program files, delete and uninstall unwanted programs on your computer. Go to control panel> add remove programs. Make sure you restart your computer after uninstalling or removing the program so that complete deletion will take place.

4. Delete all files (temporary files and cookies from the computer). Here's how: open a browser. On top of the browser click on tools> internet options> delete files and then delete cookies. Make your history set to (0). Others wants it on at least 10. I always set mine to (0).

5. You have to be very careful in installing or downloading programs. Make sure you need it, if not please just avoid it. Uninstalling them is really hard. Many vendors have all the power to have their program stay in your computer!

6. Always turn on your firewall. I suggest you have only one firewall and one anti virus. You get less safer if you have two anti virus running (I know people who likes to have two anti virus programs running on their computer, I do not know why.)

7. Run anti-spyware programs. I trust spybot, search and destroy and the adware from Lavasoft. I run SD every week, I do immunize them before I do the end program to run. I run adware every week too after I run spybot search and destroy.

8. Run complete scan using your antivirus software at least everyday (some do it once a week). Mine is scheduled at 3:00 am everyday.

9. Avoid multi-tasking too much! Meaning to say, avoid opening too many programs all at the same time running at the task bar.

10. I also suggest you get a dual hard drive (which I know is now common in the market), one for the operating system only and the other for all programs, database and files. This way, the computer boots on one hard drive.

11. Also check the performance of your computer when …

Web Design Basics – Do You Know the 5 Essential Elements For Any Web Site?

There are those that say that the world became a lot less understandable with the arrival of "desktop publishing" and multiple fonts. Everyone began to add bells and whistles to the simplest documents.

To some extent this is just as true for web site development! Before you get fancy and clever with the design or special effects, make sure you've addressed a few web design basics.

It starts with good content. Make sure your site offers useful and informative content. Visitors to your site are not looking for an art gallery, they're looking for information. Make sure you give it to them.

Make it readable. The content will not do much good if it's displayed in yellow on a white background, is in the smallest possible type, or uses an unreadable font. This also includes compatibility issues that make content unreadable – make sure your site works on Microsoft's Internet Explore, Mozilla, and Apple's Safari.
Add good navigation. If you've provided the content, make sure your visitors can find it. That includes search engines trying to catalog your site appropriately. Keep your menus and submenu obvious and direct. Make sure links and cross-links are visible and intuitive. Adding a site-map is always a good addendum to helping both users and search engines find what they're looking for.

Keep it clean. It's essential that your site has no bugs, no dead-end links, no spelling errors, and no out-of-date data. In all events, inspect and monitor your site content carefully.

Keep it simple. Web design basics are just that … basic. Do not use effects unless they add-value to your objectives. Using elaborate effects, even using tools like Flash, often make your site harder to use and harder to get the information your visitors are looking for. Likewise, do not implement an elaborate page structure when a simple one will do.

These essential web design basics boil down to common sense. Paying attention to these four essentials is a good benchmark for managing your own site. …

How Was the Year 2012 for the Gadget and SEO Industry?

2013 is already here. We all celebrated it with great enthusiasm. Yes, 2012 had been a memorable year for many of us. I personally opine that each year is memorable for some reason or the other, be it on the professional front or the personal grounds. Keeping the personal things personal, let's talk about the professional front a bit.

I work in the IT industry, which is the reason why I keep on writing about IT related issues. 2012 proved to be a great year for IT in many aspects. The things which attract me most are SEO and gadgets. Let's discuss the year for each of those.

SEO : For the SEO experts, the year 2012 was almost like a year of horror. Google pushed out many major updates in 2012, mostly the Panda version and the Penguin version. There were at least 3 Penguin updates, which Google calls major updates. These updates typically re-shaped how SEO industry was acting. Apart from that, there were at least twenty two Panda updates, which Google calls minor updates. Other than that, Google also came out with the famous "Exact Match Domain" (EMD) update.

Much stress was laid on fresh, unique, relevant and useful content and importance of 'link-building' was greatly reduced. As a result, content creators made merry while traditional SEO practices suffered a lot.

Google also came down harshly on sites violating DMCA and removed 50 million pages from its SERP which violated the DMCA.

Gadgets : This year saw some of the biggest changes since 2008. The new iPhone 5 was released among many fanfare and Google launched its own Nexus 4 and Nexus 10; the former being a Smartphone made in collaboration with LG and the latter being a 10 inch Android powered tablet made by Samsung.

Samsung and Apple kept their horns locked in legal battles about copyright and other things, around the world. This reminds me that Apple removed Google Maps from iPhone. Actually tried to replace it with their own map, but after much hue and cry, Google Maps were re-introduced for iPhone users.

The year 2012 also saw another change in personal computing trend. For the first time, more people accessed the internet using handheld devices than laptops and PCs. There was a survey which says that we will see a larger handheld device market than the PC and laptop market together in 2013. This has led many companies to plunge themselves into mobile app and mobile website development.

In an astonishing data, it was shown that Android devices are getting activated at a rate never seen before.

Google sponsored Android tops the chart of smart devices all over the world except the USA where Apple still is going strong. …

Who Do You Trust? Firewalls

After you ensure your passwords are strong and known only to you, you need to ensure your router is properly configured. I discussed these steps in my two previous posts of this series. In this article, we will talk about firewalls, what they are, where and how to use them.

As I have said before, Internet security should be implemented in layers. No one layer offers sufficient protection. Another layer you should always use is a firewall. A firewall is a guard at the door between two networks. It decides who and what goes through the door in both directions. If you have a door connecting your private network or computer with the Internet, you NEED a good door guard!

I will not try and describe how they work in detail. I began to, realized after typing three paragraphs, that most people do not need to understand the detail and, there is way too much of it! Technical types can argue about the nuances and exceptions to my explanation, but for most people, it is enough to understand firewalls at a basic level.

Firewalls control which applications on one computer can talk to which applications on another computer. Think of a firewall as a filter that can be configured to block or allow traffic to and from the Internet. You can filter traffic based upon the type (applications, ie: ftp, file sharing, etc.), and the source (particular computers or networks). Firewall configurations usually begin by blocking everything. Then exceptions are added as they are required. All firewalls can be configured to allow exceptions, including the firewall that comes with Windows.

Most personal firewalls like the one that comes with Windows, are already configured for the most common uses and block many applications that you do not normally use. The default configuration of Windows Firewall is a great place to start. Just make sure it is turned on! You can access Windows Firewall from Control Panel.

Windows Firewall is configured by entering exceptions to its rules for blocking traffic. Most of the time, Windows will configure these exceptions as you require them. For example, if you were to configure Remote Desktop to allow computers to connect to your computer, Windows will add the required exception to its firewall.

You should be protected from computers on the Internet trying to connect to your computer to use Remote Desktop, by your router. Your computer's private address is not accessible from the internet directly unless you configure your router to allow it. However, if you want an added layer of security, you can configure the exception rule in Windows Firewall to only allow Remote Desktop from computers on your home network. Remote Desktop will also require your computer's administrator's user name and password to connect, or another user's credentials that you specifically configured Remote Desktop to allow. I will talk about configuring routers to allow Remote Desktop and other applications from the Internet in a later post.

Even though your router can protect your …

Innovative Internet Marketing Resources You May Find Useful

When it comes to finding innovative Internet marketing ideas, one of the first places that you should look is online. Online, you will find a number of resources; resources that can provide you with updated information on innovative Internet marketing.

You can often find these resources, which tend to be online websites or online business journals, by performing a standard Internet search. What is nice about the Internet is that it is quick and easy to use. This means that you could, literally, search through hundreds of Internet marketing ideas, all in a few hours!

In addition to using the Internet, you may also want to search for innovative Internet marketing ideas in print. One of the best ways to do this is to examine printed business journals or printed business magazines. These are similar to the above mentioned online business journals, just they are in printed form. If you are interested in receiving the latest information on Internet marketing, it may be a good idea to buy a subscription to a number of business magazines or business journals. Most of these magazines and journals come out on a monthly basis, although some will come out on a weekly basis. For a reasonable fee, you can have innovative Internet marketing ideas and strategies delivered directly to your door!

You are also prompted to check out your local book stores. Book stores are home to millions of different books, many of which are business books that have a focus on marketing. The only downside to using your local book store, to search for innovative Internet marketing ideas, is that that some of the books that you may find may be considered old or outdated. That is why, when buying an Internet marketing book, you should pay close attention to the publishing date. In fact, it may even be a good idea to keep an eye out for newly released books. These books are the best way to find the best & most up-to-date Internet marketing ideas for you and your business. It is also important to note that you may also be able to find printed business journals and magazines for sale at your local book store.

It may also be a good idea to examine the selection of books that can be found in your local library. As with your local book store, it is important that you keep an eye on book publishing dates, especially if you are only looking for new, innovative Internet marketing ideas. In most cases, you will find that the books found inside your library are a little bit outdated, but, depending on your library, it may also be possible to find newly released books. Since most libraries are free to use, it would not hurt to give your local library a try. If you do not find what you are looking for, you can also try the Internet or one of your local book stores.

As you can see, there are a number of …

Halogen Lighting – The Technology Behind It

Introduction

Tungsten Halogen lamps were invented in 1958 by the engineers of General Electric. Producing a very strong, white light they are now used in many applications from automotive to retail display lighting. To understand their many advantages and consequent popularity we will compare the way in which 'normal' incandescent lamps work.

Incandescent Lamps

A normal incandescent lamp enterprises a tungsten filament inside a glass envelope filled with inert gas such as argon or nitrogen. An electric current heats up the filament to about 3000 degrees making it a thermal radiator. At this temperature about 5-10% of the electrical input is converted to visible light and about 90% to heat, which is not particularly efficient!

During this process the filament vaporises and tungsten atoms stream towards and deposit on the cooler glass walls of the lamp envelope, which, over time becomes black. You will probably have noticed this in some of your older household lamps.

This is bad news on two fronts: The filament is constantly degrading, and that limits the life of the bulb. In normal use incandescent lamps typically last only 750 to 1,000 hours. The blackening of the glass also impairs the performance of the lamp for the deposited Tungsten material absorbs light. To decelerate this blackening conventional incandescent lamps have a 'big' envelope with a wide surface area to spread the deposited tungsten.

The Halogen Breakthrough

The engineers of GE discovered that when Halogen gas was added to the envelope tungsten atoms did not collect on the walls . The Halogen atoms attach themselves to the vaporised tungsten atoms and transport them back to the filament where they are reused . The Halogen atoms then go back out into the atmosphere atmosphere and search for more vaporized Tungsten atoms. This continuous process is known as the 'Halogen Cycle', and it signaled a breakthrough in lamp technology and design.

  1. Since the tungsten filament is continuously 're-fed' with atoms it may be operated at much higher temperatures . This results in a much brighter, whiter light. Halogen lamps therefor have a better 'light efficiency'. They produce about 20% more light per watt than an incandescent lamp.
  2. The whiter light that halogen lamps produce give a 'better color rendering' , as they identify more colors of the visible spectrum. Their use initially became widespread in retail display lighting for this reason.
  3. Because the filament is continuously re-fed with tungsten it lasts much longer . Halogen lamps are now being produced with an expected life of over 4000 hours.
  4. They do not suffer from blackening meaning the lamp performances consistently through its life.
  5. Since blackening does not occur, halogen lamps have no need for a big envelope, and are so much more compact . The envelope of a G4 12v 20w capsule, for example, is just over 1cm long

Conclusion

These advantages have made halogen lamps the number one choice of architects, lighting designers, retailers and home owners. Continual research and development by the major lamp manufacturers is leading to …
