Nokia Threat Intelligence Report warns of rising cyberattacks on internet-connected devices

·Report also highlights role of numerous COVID-19-themed cybercriminal campaigns aimed at exploiting user data

22 October 2020

Espoo Finland – Cyberattacks on internet-connected devices continue to rise at an alarming rate due to poor security protections and cybercriminals use of automated tools to exploit these vulnerabilities, according to the latest Nokia Threat Intelligence Report.

The report found that Internet-connected, or IoT, devices now make up roughly 33% of infected devices, up from about 16% in 2019. The report’s findings are based on data aggregated from monitoring network traffic on more than 150 million devices globally where Nokia’s NetGuard Endpoint Security product is deployed.

Adoption of IoT devices, from smart home security monitoring systems to drones and medical devices, is expected to continue growing as consumers and enterprises move to take advantage of the high bandwidth, ultra-low latency,

Companies Will Spend $50 Billion On Artificial Intelligence This Year With Little To Show For It

As corporate spending on artificial intelligence systems is set to pass $50 billion this year, the vast majority of companies may not be seeing much return on that record investment.

In a survey of more than 3,000 company managers about their AI spend, only 10% reported significant financial benefits from their investment so far, the new report from MIT and Boston Consulting Group found.

Gains from the tech haven’t kept pace with increased adoption, says Shervin Khodabandeh, who led the study and is co-head of BCG’s AI business in North America. “We are seeing more activity, which also means more investment in technology and data science,” Khodabandeh says. “But that impact line hasn’t really changed.”

The results should prove concerning to corporations that continue to pour money into AI projects

DOJ accuses 6 Russian intelligence officers of vast computer hacking

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — The United States Department of Justice is going after six Russian military intelligence officers for alleged computer attacks.

“No country has weaponized its cyber capabilities as maliciously and irresponsibly as Russia,” DOJ National Security Assistant Attorney General John Demers said.

Demers says this group disrupted a French election, the Winter Olympics, and a hospital system in Pennsylvania.

“The most disruptive and destructive series of computer attacks ever attributed to a single group,” Demers said of the alleged hacks.

“While the alleged perpetrators of these crimes were Russian government officials, the victims who suffered real harm as a result of these crimes were often ordinary citizens and businesses around the world,” Western Pennsylvania District Attorney Scott Brady said.

Brady says Heritage Valley Health System suffered from a malware attack in 2017 and lost access to critical patient information.

3D and 4D Mind Maps for Tracking, Analyzing and Programming Artificial Intelligence

Recently I had an interesting discussion from a Midwest US Grad Student on the possibilities of a 3D, 4D Mind Map, which would in fact take the entire MindMap concept to the next level. Currently the Online Think Tank is engaged in on-going topics of the use of human mind mapping and its uses in AI or Artificial Intelligence.

My concept is to make the mind map more dynamic in 3D and 4D; for instance using a wheel as the center of the MindMap and then visualizing it as it turns. Allowing it to flow or roll along a line or distance space on the line representing a; question-decision phase that needs to be made.

As the wheel passes by it covers all the potential personal mindmap characteristics of the individual. It skips those irrelevant in the process and also folds the line to delete those question points in the … Read More

Smart-Phone Or Intelligence?

Children are more absorbed in gadgets and play the games available on the web and entertain themselves. These games have started to weaken the minds of the children and their IQ is going down. They have become dumber and they have no idea what socializing between real people is. Even when they meet real people they are found using gadgets and not mingling. There are many side effects of this smart-phone on the sensitive brains and eyes of children.

Some ill effects are as follows:

=> The kids don’t find the necessity engaging themselves in vocal conversations all they need is a game and some social chats.

=> Not only kids, but even elders are prone not socializing in person and they lose the capacity the talk and they become motionless.

=> Most of the times it’s the gadget addiction, which increases, which may lead to psychological disorders. The individual … Read More
