SlashData’s State of the Developer Nation Q3 2020 report includes responses from software developers across 159 countries and assesses both the popularity of various programming languages and where they’re used, based on its own estimate of the 21.3 million active software developers worldwide.
WhatsApp’s desktop and web clients could soon offer voice and video call support.
The forthcoming feature will reportedly also allow group calls, too.
WhatsApp has long let users place calls on mobile. Now, call support could soon arrive on WhatsApp’s web and desktop clients.
According to a report by WhatsApp tipster WABetaInfo, the ability for users to conduct voice and video chat beyond the phone app is currently in development.
Screenshots of a future WhatsApp web build suggest a pop-up will be displayed with the option to decline or accept pending calls. It’s unclear if pending video calls will preview the users’ video feeds like the phone app. An in-call pop-up could also be offered, allowing callers to mute an ongoing call or switch from voice to video.
Group voice and video calls are also supported but will likely have to adhere to the eight-person limit set across WhatsApp.
Does Archie think about his old humans — and do those humans think about Archie?
Those are the sorts of questions Connie Bekavac hopes to answer with her website, Pet Parents’ Place (petparentsplace.com). It’s a place where people who gave up their dogs, cats or other pets can connect with the people who have them now, and vice versa.
Connie, a retired Energy Department employee who lives in Edgewater, Md., has had various rescue dogs over the years. A previous dog — a little pooch Connie named Beemer — was adopted when he was 2 years old. That was an odd age for a rescue, Connie thought. In her experience, they tend to be either puppies or much older.
Later, Connie learned that when Beemer’s original owner had moved to a nursing home, no family member could take the dog, so he was left at an animal shelter. Connie figured
If you’ve never deployed a website with the Apache web server, you’re about to learn how.
Every so often I find it good to take a step back and go through the basics. It not only helps to ground me as a tech writer, but it helps a lot of people who are just learning the ropes of whatever piece of technology I’m talking about.
This time it’s all about the Apache web server, a piece of software that’s been around for decades, happily serving up small and large websites without fail. Apache works seamlessly with MySQL, PHP, and a host of other packages, so you can serve up simple static or incredibly dynamic websites.
How do you install and configure the server? Where do you place files?
Let’s walk through this, one step at a time. I’ll be demonstrating on Ubuntu Server 20.04.
If you need to get a new laptop for programming or coding purposes and are uncertain where to start, this short guide will help you find the perfect setup for your needs.
For web developers, there are really two main paths they need to go through. If you’re doing front-end web development, then you’ll need a basic machine that can run a text editor and a browser to check your progress. For back-end developers things get a bit more complicated. You will need a laptop that can handle multiple tasks simultaneously like running a browser, a local server and the code editor. These might not seem like a lot, but they do require a lot of system resources so make sure you pick a laptop that’s up to the task.
For game, 3D or mobile app development you’ll need a high performance laptop that can render everything in real-time. Think … Read More
The python programming language is a modern web programming language that was originally conceived and developed by Guido van Rossum in the 1980s. Since that time, Python has evolved into a high-performance programming language that is modular and extensible. Some of the largest websites in the world are utilizing Python such as YouTube, Disqus, and Reddit. Python offers a number of features that make it an attractive programming platform including stability, portability, object-oriented development, a powerful standard library and a wealth of third-party modules or packages.
Python has been under active development since the late 1980s and is considered a mature programming language. The developers of the Python language conduct extensive functionality and regression testing to ensure the language remains bug-free and stable with each new release.
Python programming offers a number of features that make it an attractive option for web application development. Python applications are portable … Read More
A website migration is the process of moving the files of a website from one web hosting company to another. A migration can happen for many reasons:
1. You have expanded your website and need more web space;

Web programming is an aspect of web site development and the role of web programmer is very significant just as web designer’s role in web design aspect of web site development. Programming languages have developed from machine language to low-level language and then to high-level language. The high-level language which is a language close to natural language (the language we speak) is written using certain approaches. Notable are the monolithic and structural programming approaches. With the monolithic style, you write a whole program in one single block. In structured programming approach, a program is divided into blocks of codes called modules with each module performing a specific task. BASIC, COBOL, PASCAL, C, and DBASE that ran on MS-DOS platform could be written using both approaches.
Following the revolution of windows operating system, it became possible to write programs using a more advanced structured programming approach than the type used on … Read More
