Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Uplay and the Epic Games Store) November 10 to match the Xbox One Series X and Series S release date. This means Valhalla will be playable on a whopping six platforms (including Stadia). As an Assassin’s Creed game, you can bet Valhalla has multiple editions to choose from when preordering. All editions are available to preorder now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and you can currently get a nice discount at Amazon and Walmart.
Valhalla will feature a free upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X and PS4 to PS5 when the next-gen consoles launch next month. If you purchase a physical edition for PS4, you’ll have to insert the disc in your PS5 to play with the next-gen enhancements. The same goes for Xbox One to Series X. Digital edition PS4 and Xbox One owners will be able to download the next-gen version. So you’ll only have to buy one edition of the game to play on both generations of consoles, and you can save some money this holiday by getting the PS4 edition and upgrading to the PS5 for free.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set in the ninth century in a period of turmoil for the Vikings. You play as Eivor, a Viking raider who leads their clan away from the war-torn homeland of Norway on an adventure to England. Eivor can be played as male or female, and Ubisoft promises its combat will take cues from Viking fighting styles, with a reworked combat system that includes dual-wielding and more enemy variety. Like recent iterations of the franchise, Valhalla will have a season pass that grants access to post-launch DLC.
For more on the next entry in the Ubisoft franchise, check out our roundup of everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla so far. GameSpot spoke with Valhalla narrative designer Derby McDevitt about the highly anticipated game, too. We learned Valhalla will connect to both Origins and Odyssey, and the storytelling will lean on a different structure than fans have become accustomed to. If you’re getting God of War vibes from Valhalla thanks to the Norse gods, McDevitt said Ubisoft’s take on Norse mythology will be more grounded.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla preorder bonuses
Preordering Assassin’s Creed Valhalla unlocks access to a bonus mission dubbed The Way of the Berserker.
It’s likely retailers will also offer their own exclusive bonuses before release–we’ll include those here when available.
The standard edition comes with The Way of the Berserker mission and is available to preorder now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The best price is currently available at Amazon and Walmart, which are both selling the base game for $49.94. If you order at Amazon, you’ll get the store’s preorder price guarantee, which means if you preorder at $60 and it drops again to $49.94 at any time between now and release, you’ll still get the cheapest price. You can also technically preorder the PS5 and Series X editions of the game, but with the current-gen versions netting you a freed upgrade, there’s not much reason to do so.
Next up is the Gold Edition, which is available in both physical and digital formats. The Gold Steelbook Edition comes with the game, any preorder bonuses, the season pass, and a gold steelbook for $110. Those who preorder the $100 digital edition will just get the base game and season pass. Please note that Best Buy and GameStop also have digital Gold editions available for Xbox One (retailers can’t sell PS4 digital codes anymore).
Physical Gold steelbook edition — $110
Digital Gold edition — $100
The Ragnarok Edition for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla just went up for preorder, and it’s basically an upgraded Gold edition that gets you a figurine of Eivor as well. You’ll get the Gold Edition of the game, the season pass, a steelbook, and the bonus mission in addition to the statuette–altogether, the package will cost you $150 (the cost of the steelbook Gold Edition plus the $40 figurine).
If you don’t care about the Eivor figurine, you could spend less money to buy the Ultimate Edition and get more digital content. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Ultimate Edition–available in both physical and digital formats–includes the base game, any preorder bonuses, season pass, and the Ultimate Pack. Listed as exclusive customization content, the Ultimate Pack comes with the following items:
- Berserker Gear Pack
- Berserker Settlement Pack
- Berserker Longship Pack
- Set of Runes for gear upgrades
GameStop also has an exclusive Ultimate Edition that comes with a steelbook case for $130.
Physical Ultimate steelbook edition — $130
Digital Ultimate edition — $120
The Collector’s Edition bundles all of the Ultimate Edition content–base game, preorder bonuses, season pass, and Ultimate Pack–and adds a bunch of physical goodies:
- Ultimate Edition of the game with preorder bonuses
- Replica statue of Eivor and her longship (30 cm)
- Steelbook (exclusive to Ubisoft Store)
- Collector’s case with unique artwork
- Statuette of Eivor with his Raven and Dane axe (5 cm)
- 3 exclusive lithographs showcasing concept art for the game
- Selected soundtrack
- Numbered certificate of authenticity
The $200 Collector’s Edition is available exclusively at the Ubisoft Store for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s currently sold out, but could come back in stock ahead of launch. It’s important to note that the Xbox Collector’s edition comes with a digital code–the PlayStation edition is a physical disc.
