Want to feel safer on the road? Here are safety gadgets for the most common dangers RVers & solo travelers face…

While we can’t realistically cover every danger, we considered the most common dangers RVers face and found the best safety gadgets to mitigate those risks.

We’ve compiled this list accordingly. So, whether you’re a solo RVer, traveling couple, or family on the road, the following safety gadgets will help keep you safe.

It is our sincerest hope that you will carefully consider these safety gadgets (or similar). One may very well save your life or the life of another.

Dangers You May Encounter While RVing

No matter where you travel, there are always inherent risks, and RVing is no different. Yes, there are the obvious risks, like theft or accidents, but there are other risks tied specifically to RVing.

The most common dangers of RVing are:

  • Driving collision or accident
  • RV breaking down or getting stranded
  • Getting lost
  • Theft or break-in
  • Physically attacked by a stranger
  • Encountering dangerous wildlife
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • RV fire
  • Getting Caught in Severe Weather

Now, mind you, you can RV for decades and not encounter any of these dangerous situations. But it only takes one bad situation to make you wish you were better prepared. The following list of safety gadgets addresses as many of those dangers as possible.

(By the way, you should also check out our LIFE-SAVING RV Emergency Preparedness article that links to multiple safety resources.)

8 Life-Saving Safety Gadgets for RVers

We highly recommend EVERY RVer takes time to consider how they can make their travels safer. Whether you’re a solo traveler, senior RVer, or simply safety-minded, these safety gadgets will better prepare you for any potentially dangerous situation.

1. ResQme Keychain Vehicle Escape Tool

The ResQme keychain is a 2-1 seatbelt cutter and window breaker. This tool could save your life if you’re ever in an accident.

We’ve heard one too many stories of people being trapped in their vehicles and have seen too many RVs that have caught on fire in accidents. This tool can save you from starring in one such story.

Also, be sure to keep a roadside emergency kit in your RV!

2. ZOLEO Satellite SOS Communicator

Be Prepared! Safety Gadgets for EVERY DANGER RVers Face 1

A satellite communicator keeps you connected whenever RVing takes you off the beaten path. This ZOLEO Satellite communicator connects you in several ways at the push of a button:

  • 2-way SMS text messaging & email
  • Emergency SOS altering
  • Check-in & Share your GPS location

It does require a monthly subscription; however, it’s money well-spent, especially if you often camp and hike in remote locations. It could save your life if you get into an accident, get lost or stranded, or get injured by getting help to you wherever you are.

3. Portable TattleTale RV Security System

The TattleTale Portable Security System is a great option for RVers. It has everything you need built into one box, including anti-theft, water, fire, and panic alarms.

As you may have read in our previous article, theft is not common at campgrounds, but it does happen. And, more so, theft and break-ins do sometimes occur when “parking lot docking” at truck stops, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, and more.

4. She’s Birdie Personal Safety Alarm

This safety gadget is known as “The original personal safety alarm for women by women,” but it’s great for both men and women. With a quick tug, it emits a LOUD siren and flashing strobe light to create a diversion and draw attention from people nearby.

It attaches easily to your backpack, purse, or even keys if you don’t mind carrying a bulky set. We know someone who attached it to their dog leash in case they encounter a coyote or other dangerous wildlife. Or, a dangerous human, for that matter.

5. Counter Assault Bear Spray

Speaking of dangerous wildlife, we recommend carrying Counter Assault when camping in bear country. We learned about this product from a bear safety expert named Chuck Bartlebaugh.

Chuck says it’s the best choice for stopping a charging, attacking, or threatening bear. Thankfully, we’ve never needed to use it, but we certainly feel safer carrying it.

6. Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector

Carbon monoxide is a hidden danger that too many RVers overlook. If your RV is not equipped with one already, you should definitely invest in a Carbon Monoxide Detector.

In addition to a CO detector, we recommend keeping a gas leak detector in your RV tool kit. It’s a gas-sniffing wand that will help you identify leaks in your RV.

It’s also vitally important that every RVer know how to detect carbon monoxide in your RV and knows these RV Propane Safety Tips to Prevent an EXPLOSION.

7. EZ Fire Spray

Let me start by saying this product is NOT a fire extinguisher. It does not meet legal or insurance requirements for fire extinguishers. However, this small EZ fire spray can quickly quelch a fire before it gets out of control.

You can keep this small can in a kitchen cabinet or next to your grill, and quickly grab it in case of a flare-up. It’s a great safety gadget in addition to an RV fire extinguisher.

8. Emergency Weather Radio

We have a list of the best survival radios, all of which will help keep you safe and informed in case of severe weather. You’ll need to check out the whole list to determine which radio is best for your needs.

But, if you want to go based on the number of high ratings alone, the Kaito Voyager Emergency Radio is a solid choice.

At the top of every RVers bucket list, it is a place so majestic, so wild, and so big that it calls us to return, to explore, to get to know the diversity of its land and animals over and over again.

Everywhere you look are waterfalls, fast-moving rivers, geysers, sheer rock faces, towering lodgepole pines, all framed by mountains under the bright blue cloudless sky.

It’s spectacular for those who love the wilderness and getting up close and personal with it. Enjoy Yellowstone for RV travel.
