Glastonbury Launching New And Improved Town Website Today

November 9, 2020

The Town of Glastonbury is pleased to announce the launch of a new and improved Town website, which will “Go Live” on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. The new site has been designed with an emphasis on improved accessibility and navigation, particularly when accessing the site on mobile devices, and will feature a more modern look with enhanced search capabilities and graphic elements. Popular menus such as “I Want To” and “Departments” will remain in place, but the content overall will be better organized to help citizens find the information and resources they need quickly and easily. The homepage will also offer new features including a “Service Finder” and top search suggestions. Interior pages will leverage formatting widgets and image “buttons” to help users quickly navigate to popular content as supported by Google Analytics. All of these features are also available on the mobile version of the site, which has undergone a significant update to accommodate the growing population of users who access the site from an iPhone, iPad, or similar device (as compared to those accessing it by a desktop computer).

In addition to improved navigation and search functionality, one of the primary objectives for this project was to improve the site’s accessibility. Glastonbury’s website partner Granicus worked with Town staff to design the new website to incorporate and comply with the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), a set of industry standards that helps make content more accessible to all. Town staff believe the new site will be much easier to navigate whether it is accessed by desktop or mobile device, and will be more conducive to the diverse information and communication needs of the Glastonbury community.

In addition to the design changes, the new site will be available through a slightly revised, yet simpler domain at This change, which excludes the hyphen between the words ‘Glastonbury’ and ‘CT’, was made for technical and security purposes and for consistency with other municipal sites. The previous domain will be maintained for forwarding users as applicable.

While the new site will bring great improvements, a project of this scope and significance will have a transitional period with a few “growing pains” to bear. Beginning Tuesday morning at 9:00 am, and in the days/weeks that follow, community members should be mindful that they may experience some temporary inconveniences on the site such as broken links, faulty redirects, and intermittent, yet minimal moments of downtime. It will also take a few weeks for Google to updates its search engine to reflect the new site map, therefore your patience is appreciated as we make this exciting transition. Glastonbury citizens should please update any bookmarks or browser settings to reflect the new, hyphen-less domain,, as well as any “friendly URLs” you may use to access web pages directly, for example

Town staff will continue to work diligently in the coming weeks to resolve any outstanding issues and minimize the inconveniences to community members that may arise through this launch phase. If you identify any broken links or issues on the new site, please submit the issue to Kathryn Paquette at [email protected], and we will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve this valuable Town communication resource.
