Adobe to buy marketing software firm Workfront for $1.5 billion

Adobe said Monday that it has signed a deal to acquire marketing software firm Workfront for $1.5 billion. Adobe plans to integrate Workfront’s capabilities with Experience Cloud, its platform focused on marketing customization, content delivery, data, analytics, commerce, advertising and customer journeys.

Workfront’s software and APIs are used by marketers to manage content, plan and track marketing campaigns, and execute workflows across teams. 

In addition to its core work management platform, Workfront’s products include Align, a strategy and planning platform; Fusion, an integration platform; and the Workfront Scenario Planner. 

Adobe said the combination of Workfront and Experience Cloud will bring efficiency, collaboration, and productivity gains to marketing teams.

Kochava acquires database firm Thalamus to connect ad buyers and vendors

Kochava has acquired database maker Thalamus to connect ad buyers and vendors as the industry adjusts to a changing mobile app and games landscape. The acquisition price was not disclosed.

Sandpoint, Idaho-based Kochava will rename Thalamus’ service as the Kochava Media Index, which will allow Kochava to elevate the insights it gives brands and publishers to make purchasing decisions. The move is coming amid uncertainty about big platforms like iOS, as Apple is retiring its Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) in the name of user privacy.

Chinese rocket firm Galactic Energy succeeds with first orbital launch, secures funding

HELSINKI — Chinese rocket firm Galactic Energy successfully sent a small satellite into orbit Saturday with the first launch of its Ceres-1 launch vehicle.

The Ceres-1 four-stage solid rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center near the Gobi Desert at 2:12 a.m. Eastern Saturday.

First indications of launch came from spectators posting footage on Chinese social media. Chinese state media announced launch success around 30 minutes later.

The 50-kilogram Tianqi-11 satellite was sent into a 500-kilometer Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). Shanghai ASES Spaceflight Technology Co. Ltd., developed the satellite, nominally part of the Tianqi (“Apocalypse”) narrowband Internet of Things constellation for Beijing Guodian Gaoke Technology Co. Ltd. 

The successful mission means Galactic Energy becomes the second nominally private Chinese launch company to reach orbit.

Veteran British video game company Codemasters has confirmed it plans to sell to US giant Take-Two.

Codemasters is best known for its racing games, including the Dirt Rally series and Formula 1 licences.

The studio was founded in the UK, and currently has its headquarters in Southam, Warwickshire.

Take-Two has offered a deal that values Codemasters at £739m ($973m), and Codemasters says it intends to recommend it to its shareholders.

The announcement comes on the same day the firm released its latest title, Dirt 5.

Despite its current focus on racing games, Codemasters has dabbled in several other notable franchises over the years.

The firm created the Dizzy series of platforming games in the Spectrum and Commodore era, as well as several sports games.
